Tucker Brook in Summer

Getting all of the seasons, such as we do here in New England, we get fresh looks at our favorite places all year long.   To really capture the  character of a places means not just having camera skills, but also the keen observation of the changes that are always taking place.

In the early Summer we have a full canopy in most of the forested areas in southern New Hampshire providing lots of warm, diffuse light in the morning hours.  We also have the remnants of the Spring thaw and rains keeping our brooks and streams flowing nicely.  This is an image from just downstream of the waterfall at Tucker Brook Town Forest in Milford, NH at the early part of Summer.  The beautiful colors of Spring have already passed, but there is still much beauty to be seen here.

To capture the effects of the eddies in the stream I made a 45 second long exposure.   I’m using the 4×5 view camera on this image, so it is tack sharp and enlarges nicely.  A 30″ x 42″ print of this image hangs in Buchanan Hall at the Tuck Business School of Dartmouth College.

This image has the ID of RVP-09-024.
